Went to SPI with the kiters Matt and Jake to catch the Hurricane Zeta swell. We parked at the north dead end of the island. There was a pretty fun overhead wave there for a couple quick turns, then the whole thing would completely close out on you. Still fun to play around with. And quite spicy getting out through the shorebreak. Then in kiter fashion they wanted to do a downwinder. Ok. That started out fun. The problem for a downwinder is you have to rig not only for here and now, but for conditions 8 miles away and an hour or two later. The wind died. It turned into the last few miles of standing still balancing as I aimed south and waited for the parking lot to come into view. Luckily with the current and the occasional open ocean swell helping me along. I don't regret trying and think that if the wind held it could have been much more fun. We ended the day with the loss of a kite in the surf, but luckily everyone ok. Hopefully it turns up.
