WTF!!!!!!!!!! The forecasts I keep looking at are getting it all wrong. Last Saturday the wind was supposed to die by noon in Corpus making the drive not worth it, and it blew 20 all day. Today, a skinny spike of N wind of 15mph was predicted at 3pm by iW, Wind Guru, NOAA, Windfinder. I get there early, but only bring my foil board and 2 sails. I am sure I will rig my 5.9m2 Freek, and just have to decide on the front wing. I get there and look at the water, and I have to say it looks windy, so I rig optimistic and go for the 5.6m2 S-1 and small front wing. I get out there, and I am powered nicely. Then, some massive gusts come through. I am keeping it together, but ending up a little upwind. Then, the water turns white and the sailboats racing near by are broaching. A few are in massive trouble with their spinnakers. I head up to the water inlet north of WP thinking it will pass relatively quick. I am sailing back and forth dodging the motorboats who use the inlet for lake access. And I keep telling myself this high wind will pass any minute. Every time I test myself and make it to the channel I just get punished. When it finally lets up to @20mph I was agressively heading way downwind aided by the chop, but when I would jibe to the other tack, it would pick up again and I would end up back upwind. The whole time I am thinking to myself what a great time I would actually be having if I was on my freestyle board. I also kept saying to myself this is how you get better at foiling....Really???
