I sailed my ass off. I am finally able to foil at Bird again. I found a 65 cm Starboard mast by buying a used surf foil with an adapter plate and taking the plate off. I experimented with using the short Quickloc surf fuselage since it is very easy to use and light! Flights were surprisingly stable, turning radius was tighter, but I needed the UJ/mast base all the way back in the track and it was still very back footed. The long fuselage is easier for this reason, but the short Quickloc fuse is SO much nicer to rig and switch out front wings if desired. IF I ever get better at this stuff, I could see preferring the short fuselage. I am very tempted to try put in inserts in my board for a single back foot strap. This is just where my back foot wants to be. I often put it between the two rear footstraps or hook my toes under the leeward one. It is just uncomfortable stepping on top of them. I keep saying I will take the rear footstraps off, but never do.Today, we had two 20mph peaks that were brief and also a brief 12mph lull in the wind, but the foil allowed me to stay on the water nearly the whole time. I would rather windsurf any day of the week than foil, but there is no doubt the foil leads to more time on the water.
