When I got there, I saw white caps and rough water, but it did not feel that windy. I rigged up my 8.0/C145. I forgot to readjust my harness lines from the last time used the boom (I had sailed the 10.9). I tried to do this on the fly, which was tough since water was so rough. It really did not feel that windy, and getting on a plane was tough. I ended up pretty far down wind before I knew it. There were some stong freak puffs, but they lasted just a second. It was tough to get dialed in. I was in the middle of the channel below the point, trying to go upwind, when I heard the dreaded POW! The mast snapped just above the boom. Luckily, I did not shred the sail or get run over by the heavy motorboat traffic. At least it was easy to flag someone for help and get a ride back to Windy Point boat ramp. So, not much good sailing today, and I need a new 490 mast. It was hot, but very pretty today. The heavy motorboat traffic really made for choppy water. Too bad the wind was not there to launch me ;)
