A decent lake day. Tried 5 or so vulcans...Laura said one looked as good as Mike's or Phillip's attempts, but she might be needing some more lasik. Got a much better feeling of board/sail control in the UW3s today by keeping the back hand very close to my face in the initial part of the move. This seems to make the move go quicker and gives a sense of the rig slicing threw the wind. Was doing UWCF3s only because I can never seem to finish off a push tack in strong winds. But, I figured out why. I need to hold the mast more upright and near to my face when transitioning out of CF to normal in strong winds, otherwise the rig just gets ripped out of my hands every single time. Tried some shove-its...one felt pretty close. My brain played a strange trick on me once. Without thinking about it, I tried a forward, but there's a catch. When I "sheeted in" on the jump, my back hand wasn't actually holding onto the boom any longer! So there's me, in the air, crouched into a ball, looking over my back shoulder, and throwing my back hand away behind me. Took me a minute or two to figure out what I had done. It was the subconscious move that came out of nowhere. Finally sailed with the used carbon boom I bought a while back and with much longer harness lines. I like 'em both.
