Buck McRockbuff's WindLog for Tuesday July 22, 2008

73rd session in 2008
Sailed at Hatchery, WA
Wind from the W (mph)
        Average: 35
Rated a 10 of 10

Board: RRD Wave Cult 75L
Sail: Ezzy Wave 3.3

Venue 2 of 2:

I rigged the 4.0 because I had a hunch the wind was coming down, and when I looked out at the sailors, many were shlogging on 2.9s and 3.3s. This must've been the only 1 minute shlog of the day, or an illusion, or a practical joke, or a hallucination, because there weren't any lulls. Rode the 4.0 out and back, then yelled uncle. This provided some good fodder for laughs for my mates later.

Took the 3.3 ezzy race sail and sailed sheeted out riding the fin for about an hour, wondering why I was doing this. But Mike was staying out on his 80L board, so I stayed out too, and then I finally started to get comfortable enough to start trying things. The swell was geenormous and smooth, the biggest I've seen in the Gorge, which brought out the people who seem to only sail when the swell is geenormous and smooth. These people are amazingly good at riding the swell in these directly onshore conditions. A smaller, skinnier board would've been nice, but I made do.
