Jenn started teaching me kiting today. I practiced with the 2m kite first, then we got suited up and went out to the sandbar with her 8m. It went better than I expected, actually. I thought it would be so powerful that I'd be getting dragged around, and I also thought I wouldn't catch on too well. But it seemed pretty easy to get the hang of. I'm not a natural with it or anything. I was just getting to the point of body dragging when we both had to leave for evening plans. My thoughts so far are that I don't need another sport when I'm already satisfied and overly busy with what I have. I also didn't so much like the distance from the kite and relatively delayed response time compared with a sail. But at the same time, it has other assets that windsurfing does not, so it's a tradeoff. It could be neat to have another option sometimes, like when you want to travel and pack light, or for some reason want to get planing in like 10 (which she can do), or hike to more remote places (like what happened during Dolly). So I'll try it again and hopefully actually get in the water next time.
