I almost didn't go today due to the erratic readings and bad reports....but I'm really glad I made it out. Cole Park had a huge wind shadow, but beyond that it was solid 4.2-4.7. I rigged the latter to make sure I planed through even the lulls. Sailed out to that new oil platform. I broke my starbord side harness line early on, so I sailed more conservatively than I would have liked, doing short reaches to give my arms a break on the other side. I practiced lots of wave riding, trying that maneuver where you cut back and drag a hand on the wave on the other side. By the end I'd figured out how to do that without stalling (since the direction wasn't quite right for it ). That platform was way out there, several miles out, and backlit by the setting sun, the shore became just a black silhouette against the red sky. It felt so free, not even being able to see my car or the parking lot or even Cole Park or other sails, only the waves, so that's all I focused on.
