Finally we got a NE wind on a weekend! Waves were bigger than normal out there, and you had to schlog out, then ride in. It was more of a pure wave day than usual, which was fun at times, although I did miss being able to jump on the way out. The whole session had this aura of being on the brink of disaster, and really you pretty much were. One blown jibe or wave ridden too far could quickly result in shooting the pier, because wind was feather light on the inside, current was noticeable, and the waves were big enough to keep you down if you fell the wrong way. It was also hard to plane through jibes and to balance on non-planing jibes on my little board. Several good sailors did end up shooting the pier, so i can humbly say I was just lucky (because I was not conservative). My only major mistake was riding in too far once, running out of room to throw a jibe, and having to come right next to the pier and walk it back up to the car. I went out for round 2 as the sun was setting, and the wind turned out to be a bit too light by then to really get going. I was impatient and rode in on a not-so-good set.Was really sore later from all that unhooked sailing. Ken was officially awesome for helping me with my gear afterward (he finished surfing before me).
