Sailed at Lowers, Maui
Wind from the NE (mph)
Board: Thommen 11'2" Wind'SUP
Sail: '010 NP Firefly 5.7
In the morning, we stopped and saw the mongo munchers at Hookipa. Not a sole human in the water. Nobody. Too munchy? Waiting for the bigger ones on Christmas?
After buying some fruit on the side of the road on the way back from seeing if there was any Jaws in effect, we stopped back in our downtown hippy pad and made a pear cactus, banana, avocado, papaya, and local orange smoothy. It wasn't that good. So we'll eat the remaining fruits by themselves, which will be very good.
We then decided to go to Kanaha. Hung out there for a tad, and declared to each other that we would not rent any gear today. Instead, we would go check out the windsurfing stores. The first one we were in, we failed to stay the course, and proceeded to rent some gear. We got a SUP with a mast track. I didn't go all the way out to the head high sets. Not enough wind, and this big board would've been more than a handful. I quickly got stuck on the reef between the big sets and the weird wave and sliced my foot a bit. The way that you can feel this board flexing as you plow through the waves brought me all thte way back to the good old 1980's and my first board, the Magnum 370.
Lots of horn honking on Maui these days. What's the world coming to?
