63rd session in 2011
Sailed at Hatchery, WA
Wind from the W (mph)
Board: '09 RRD WaveTwin 82
Sail: '09 NP Firefly 4.1
Started the day at Doug's on the 3.7 and the new board, but it stunk. We need to replace these last of our seam-shaped sails. Will work on resolving that tomorrow.
Quickly packed up and moved west to The Hatch, where we were welcomed by 4.1 conditions and BIG clean swell. Over head high. Bigger than the wind strength would normally produce.
Successfully coached L into launching at the point! As I'm walking my 90L kit down the road, Tyson comes up from the point with his 90L freestyle board and tells me it's a little crazy out there for a freestyle board. Knowing full well that he wasn't fibbing, I decided to try it anyway, especially since my inertia was pointed in the direction of the water. Came back in after a few minutes and switched to the new 82.
My worries about whether this was a good choice of boards for highest wind freestyle were eventually squashed after I found my groove and started making stuff. Big sigh of relief! Came this close to making my first one-handed S540, but it all happened so quickly that I wasn't prepared to go back to 2 hands when it was time. The board was done 540ing and all was in control, but I didn't realize that until it was too late. Made my first one-handed vulcan. I'm quite happy with the board, but I have yet to figure out how to carve it with the sail layed down. I've had to figure this out on each new board I've ridden lately, so there's hope that it's not due to the fin configuration.
Awesome to be in the greatest place in the world (in July) with the greatest woman in the world doing the greatest sport in the world!
