Sailed at North beach for the first time. Launched just south of the Villa del Sol hotel. We were the only windsurfers there, although after a while, 3 others launched from further south. I was the guinea pig on the 5.0. Not very powered in the smallish shore break, but then adequately powered outside. After a short session, gave the kit to Laura. The smallish break was the perfect conditions for Laura's first experience of having to sail out of a shore break. Wind picked up...outside swell got bigger...shore break got bigger...Laura switched to a 4.4. We both sailed well past the point of being tired...hard not to when you're having this much fun! The swell and the break reminded me of my early sailing days on Lake Erie (20 years ago! Ack!) But, back then I was fighting the break with a 12 1/2 foot, 50 lb plastic board (Magnum brand) with a dagger board and a soft triangle sail! Very sandy derigging. Need to figure out how to improve on that. One great thing about sailing here on Sunday is that we're already half way to Austin (or at least it seems like it) when we leave the beach. Post sailing beer: None...had to drive back to Austin.
