Another excellent after work session. An amazing number of people on the water, maybe 15, of all different abilities. 15 is huge for Austin, and many of the usual suspects weren't even there. Worked on, you guessed it, push tacks. Out of 20+ attempts, made one planing on starboard. Figured out that I was putting too much emphasis on the backwinding portion, and then getting stuck there without being able to get the clew through the wind. Also, I was leaning too far to windward while backwinding. Was happy to have done one on the smallish board and the biggish sail. It's all downhill from here. Took a step backward on my vulcan attempts and worked on the bottom portion of the vulcan, i.e. getting the board out the of the water while headed slightly downwind, and sticking the nose in the water. Having trouble coordinating the top half and the bottom half of this move. Beautiful sunset with classic anvil t-storms forming all around us, cloud-to-cloud lightning, sliver of a moon, and clear skies directly above. PS Beer: Full Sail Amber, Real Ale Blanco Pale, shared with Guy and Mark.
