This is crazy, but this session was exactly 1 YEAR after my last wave session. That last day was a debacle, and I hated ending on that note. I left my sandy booties outside our door for months in protest. I didn't want to hang them up, but I had to finally let it go because first I was injured, then the twins and lots of restrictions...so it physically wasn't feasible to do something that strenuous. Well, finally about 6 weeks ago I got 100% exericse clearance. I started very gradually with some strength training, swimming, and light running. I finally got a window where there was some wind, I was off work, I could get my gear from storage, and we had help watching the babies. Basically, the stars aligned for a few hours. Beach was a total circus due to the holiday weekend, but that was the window I had to work with. Wind was marginal. Waves were messy. My strength and stability are not there. I mostly felt like I was faking it. But one by one I made it through each wave and got to the outside. I did it! I didn't get worked. Didn't float away. Sailed for nearly an hour and made it back to where I started. I made most of my jibes. And I saw a huge turtle! What more can you ask for? Fake it til you make it, I guess. Barry and Matt were kiting. Kathi was on the beach. Fun to have a little company. My joints and bones still don't feel stable, but I'll get that back. I love the new dakine harness and rash guard!! Thanks to the Millers for the hookup...still being awesome sailing buddies from many miles away. You guys were with me out there in spirit.
