I watched forecasts all week as the cold was leaving and projected warm air for the weekend. No sun, but a chance for wind on Sunday only. The forecast looked good one minute, later not so good. Wind peaking early and dying at noon, vs a noon peak, vs all day. The weather channel and weather underground looked good for mid-day 20s, so I packed up the gear Saturday night and planned to head out of Austin at daybreak. Then I awoke and saw this (above)??? The NWS showed teens and the coastal summary 10-15 mph. Still, some forecasts had 20s, so I put on car racks and loaded the slalom board too just in case.

When I got there @ 11:00a, it was 14-15 mph. Do I rig the slalom board and the 8.5? I decided to rig the freestyle board and hope for wind to come later. I would be willing to come back in and re-rig if necessary. After a few runs, there were some punchy gusts. I got a C360 in, but the left foot started to bark. I tried a willy skipper, but the board did not make it around very far. So, I stuck to BAFing with a few 360s sprinkled in. Soon, the wind kicked in a steady 20 mph. I could have easily handled just the 5.9m2, but I was not willing to go back in. Finally @ 1:00pm others were joining in on the fun. I was downwind of most folks, so when I made myself get back up wind, I was getting pretty tired. I came into the launch area full speed getting ready to nail a duck gybe, and I lost control and was thrown over the front of the board. My front foot was still in the straps and was late to release (due to wearing booties). Ouch! l was thinking to myself, not my right foot too! I continued to sail. I think I will be fine, but I my body is falling apart even while toning things down. Good to see Peter and Nina. Nina said she was sailing slalom gear because she was waiting for her freestyle board to arrive.
