This is the first time I remember getting scared windsurfing since the hurricane dolly swell day. I had to look it up - 2008! This wasn't nearly as intense, but the wind clocked way offshore after I started, I couldn't ever fully relax and hook in, the waves were big, the wind was either a huge hole or so strong it was blowing the tops off the waves, and I had this sitting duck feeling of impending doom. I kept it together for 3 big runs (25 minutes) and caught 2 incredible big long waves, but it wasn't worth how sketchy it felt, and I basically fled with my tail between my legs. I couldn't get downwind back to my car because the current was still south, and I ended up walking a little. Odd sensation. I'm just glad I made it back. From just that short time my arms are shot. One of my most challenging sessions ever.
