The forecast was rain in the morning and NE winds @10mph. NE is not a great direction, especially if it goes more East. My elbow was really sore from yesterday, but when I saw the wind clocked North from NE, even though the wind was only 7mph, I thought it was worth at least checking out since my gear was still in my car. I looked down over the point and even brought my wind meter. 10 mph with rare gusts to 12. It was still North in direction. Then I saw Josh and Damien launch and quickly get on foil. Game on. When I launched, I caught a gust and was on foil quickly too and I passed Josh who was shlogging back toward the launch site. I made my jibe at the other end of the lake, but I was reluctant to switch feet fearing I would come off foil. Eventually, I did come off foil but I ended up way downwind trying to stay powered on toeside. The wind was now barely foilable, and I struggled to make it back upwind to the launch. The wind finally came in nicely around noon, and so did the sun. It was really nice despite the motorboat traffic, but did not last that long. I was close to not even checking things out. I am glad I did. |
