I went to the lake to cruise on the Formula 175 and check out the action of the Collegiate Nationals. The president now is a boyhood friend I haven't seen in years. He is also the sailing coach at ODU. The race was just outside AYC which is pretty far downwind from Windy Point. The action looked intense. I watched for a while, and told one of the chase boats to say hi to Mitch for me, and I headed back upwind to Windy Point. That is when the wind filled in nicely. I was feeling pretty good on the formula. This set up (9.3 sail/65cm fin) is really nice for blasting around. After a while, I was getting thirsty, so I came back to the launch. I decided to try the 9.3 Nitro on the C145 and a old course racing fin. I was a little worried it would be too big for the board. It was sweet! I was totally dialed in today. Gybes were a little clunky with the big rig, but I was comfortably powered. I was suprised to be passing some of my lighter friends (who are better sailors) which is rare in marginal conditions, but my equipment was dialed in today. Rare indeed. I am going to try this set-up again soon.
