North winds are hard to figure out. When you drive down Comanche Trail on your way to Windy Point, the water looks flat. If you sneak a look past the point, you finally see the whitecaps. You cannot still get an idea of the wind strength. The formula guys were getting hammered, but they are so macho they never let on what size under 10m2 will work. I chose my C145/8.0m2. The wind at the point is very squirely. As you get 40 yards out you start to get the gusts, then the wind kicks in. Gusts are strong near the shorelines, and it is up and down in between. Today, the gusts were kicking my butt and the chop was rattling my fillings. 7.0m2 should have been the call for me, but was too lazy to re-rig. I had to feather upwind in the gusts, and use tons of MFP to keep the board driving downwind in lulls. I would make 4-5 runs and I would have to take a break at the point, then hit it again. It was the best wind strength I have caught @ Windy Point this year. I am glad I went.
