1 For the new year, a day of superlatives. I went for it on an outside shove it and it was by far my highest attempt. I mean I FELT IT from the bottom of my chest when I landed. Not a painful impact actually, just bone-shaking. Still didn't get the board under me for the landing (guess that's why I had so far to fall). I also had a breakthrough on the BL where I sighted the landing. I was in the wrong position in the air and could tell I would not land it, but just being able to see where I was supposed to be and consciously think about it makes that feel like my best attempt to date. The main problem was that the waves were coming so close together than unless I caught the first wave of a set and it was steep, it was otherwise too hard to get up the speed for a good BL launch. By the pier I saw the biggest man-o-war I've ever seen. It was beautiful, blue and shimmering with a thick rippled top like a pinched pie crust, but I was still glad to be fully encased in neoprene. Overall conditions were good--decent size waves (although not that smooth), decent wind/wave direction setup, and clear sets. Temps not too bad but I rigged big, the same size the guys were on, and since I'm out-o-shape I found I didn't have the strength for a long sesh. It was not much more than an hour, but it was quality for sure.
