Knowing that today was also going to be a LWF day, I watched my Trictionary DVD for new stuff to try the night before. I thought I would try the backwind jibe, the clew-first helitack, and the switch stance helitack.
Amazingly, the backwind gybe is super easy if you can do the non-planing UW360 and sail backwinded comfortably. No problem on either tack. The clew-first helitack was a bit tougher. I made my first few, and I felt I as if I was on a roll, but I started to fumble a lot more as time went on.
I was not able to do the switch stance helitack. I need to look at the video again. I asked Andy to give me a few pointers, and he told me to not learn it. Instead, he showed me the non-planing version of the donkey jibe. I was able to pull it off several times in the light wind, but it was UGLY. I later that night saw a high speed planing version of it by Remko DeWerd on the Tricktionary DVD and thought it was super cool and graceful. Maybe someday after the vulcan quest is over.
