I knew I was rigging too big, because I was rigging the same size the guys were riding and they were really powered up, but I was convinced it was the right decision and in the end I didn't regret it. At the beginning it was pretty white knuckle but just in the gusts, which were around 33mph it looks like...sustained wasn't bad... and I did get in a few shove-it attempts, the first in a long time so they didn't go that well, but I could always find a little lighter spot to turn in, and I even made the two heli tacks I tried. The outside wasn't as good surfing as usual just because it was so chopped up, but you could find nice swell if you really looked! The wind also decreased over time to the point where the 4.7 was really the right sail. Mike showed up at the very end as I was tired and leaving.
