Happy New Year! This is the best way to start the year. Airnet was just about right on the money with the wind speed prediction, although I was a little too leisurely in getting to the beach. I had thought it would build to a peak around 3pm, so I got there at 1:30. It turned out the peak was more like 12-1. We're talking a difference of only about 2 mph, but on a marginal day that's the difference between planing on the inside or not. Still, after a couple runs I figured out the sweet spot of jibing in front of the last wave as it closed out, and that rush of air was enough to keep me planing through the inside jibe. Outside I was fully powered. No one else on the water to celebrate with, so no champagne this year. But with water and air both around 60, and a groupon for frozen yogurt afterward, there was plenty of cause to rejoice.
