Wind! We got there a little after 11a, and signed E. up with a private lesson with Randy. I had hoped for Randy to teach E. to Gybe, but Randy said it was really too windy for that today. I sent E. for a short warm up, and he planed briefly out of the straps, but ended up a little downwind due to the stronger winds. O., who does not yet use the harness, was overpowered. He was unsettled and frustrated, at first. I mainly worked with him until 12:30p, and then let him rest and have lunch. Since, E's lesson was at 1pm, I finally got to rig up and go out today. I went 5.9m2, and was able to plane in the gusts. After a while, I went back to check on O., and he had self-launched and was sailing on his own! I was impressed at his endurance and self-reliance that afternoon. I was very proud of both of them. Evan did well in his lesson, but was getting hammered when heading downwind to try to gybe. He still needs to get a little more stable so he can get powered up in the straps. Both boys had never sailed in stronger winds before, so it was a very good experience for them. I got to sail a little more after we got their gear put up. I could have stayed out longer, but I did not want the boys to cook too much in the sun. I saw Mike and his family briefly too. Big thank you to B&L for supporting the kids development and giving us a place to stay!! The boys asked about the train game ;) thank goodness, it was no where to be found.
