ABK Klinic Day 4
I loved the past days' light wind practice but was also super excited for a solid day of planing. I'm finally learning to appreciate this board. I guess I need to break down and look for a freestyle fin though.
After 4 days I'm extremely happy with the clinic and my progress. We got great individualized attention, I learned some new LWF tricks, and most importantly, I overcame two major paradigms. One was my fear of trying vulcans, and the other was my inability to pop or jump the board on flat water with no ramp. I guess another overall was was my stagnation in freestyle in general. Yesterday I was unbelievably frustrated and ready to quit again, but at some point today something changed, and I went from about 0 rotation on the Vulcan attempts to a little tiny bit, to (according to Andy) several 90 degree attempts and one 180 degree (!!) attempt. It is making sense to me now, is not scary even when overpowered, and I think I know much of what I need to do to figure this out. The other interesting thing is that I was trying them on what I think is my bad side due to where Andy was standing, so I think I could actually learn this bilaterally.
I landed hard on the Laguna bottom what felt like 50 times over these past few sessions, and I'm feeling it now! Sore spots everywhere. I love the feeling of trying so hard at something and finally making some progress. Fun that Juan came out and we had a nice dinner at Mole. Kudos to my mast for making its own progress--first time I could get it apart myself and not have to enlist pulling help.
