I tried to leave Friday afternoon for Corpus to get in a late evening session. Traffic on I-35 made me abort, and decide to leave very early Saturday. I actually beat MIke and B&L down there.
There were a few guys coming off the water when I arrived, sailing 5.7m2 and slalom gear, saying they were nicely powered. WW was closed, and my hope was to get my gear dialed in quickly and get a Vulcan lesson with Randy later in the morning after they opened. I knew it was going to build later in the day, so even though I could handle the 5.9m2, I thought I would try to see if I could sail my smaller 5.3m2.
The gusts were easy upper 20s to 30s, but the holes were pretty big early. It gradually filled in the afternoon, but that morning session zapped my energy trying to make my kit work. A lot of on and off the plane, and not having the rig tuned in well made my arms tired fast. My hands were getting soggy and blistered, and I was not even getting any good vulcan attempts in because I was just trying to sail BAF comfortably on a plane. I was getting discouraged, feeling like my sailing was getting worse not better.
After a lunch break, B&L showed up and the wind filled in much better. I was tired already, but knew I needed to take advantage of the day. I talked with Don, it sounds like Friday late was not that great, so I did not miss much. B&L wanted to meet MIke and Julie at the bay, so I packed up later and headed there.
