Epic Fail:

Warmer than last weekend, sunny, and same water temp. Why was I the only one there?

My plan was to get there a little early knowing that the wind was going to quickly ramp up. I planed on sailing the slalom gear until the wind filled in, then I would sail my freestyle gear as the wind started to peak. So, I rigged both in case my hands got cold. As I rigged the 8.6m2, I knew it was going to be a little windier at first than I hoped. I was exhausted just trying to get the cams on the mast. I was already wondering why I bought this stuff. Once I had the freestyle gear rigged and put away, I launched with the slalom gear. I knew instantly that things were not going to go smoothly. I SO got my tail handed to me, even before I hit the real wind line in the channel. I was never comfortable, and I could not just sheet out the sail to depower things. Gusts felt so unbelievebly strong! Even when I headed off the wind and started to plane up, I could not find the footstraps. I was in big trouble and over my head. I have BIG respect for the slalom guys now. I headed back, but I was downwind, and the wind shifted. I knew it was going to take a few tacks just to get back to the boat ramp in the squirrely wind past the point. Waterstarting a 8.6m2 is tough. Aggressive frog leg kicking it into position, I felt a sudden bad muscle pull in my inner thigh. I made it in, but just barely.

No freestyle and I wasted the session in retrospect. I hope my leg heals fast.
