I came down to CC early for tomorrow's wind, but I was very happy to get in a nice session on the slalom gear this afternoon. It was my first go with the GA Phantom and it went well. The Phantom is much lighter and easier to sail than the full on race rig of the same size. It felt super good loaded up on a plane. I now find my front footstrap easy without looking, but I still have to search for the back. I was also able to do a little sailing backwind with back to front sail flips. I was not able to tack it well yet, but I will get there. I bought a nice 490 Avanti mast on closeout. Gaastra is now supposedly using CC luff curves, but the mast is a little flextop looking in it. It takes lots of downhaul tension, and I was not able to release it from the cleat by hand. I put my rig winch on it with only a couple of wraps before releasing the tension. Big mistake! I got whipped in the chin by the downhaul line when it released. Big bleeding abrasion and hematoma. I won't do that again. Hopefully back to freestyle tomorrow :)
