Sail: New Year
Happy New Year!
This is just my personal statistical analysis and summary of my windsurfing year for me to reflect on later. I have found it helpful to look back at past year end summaries to gain some perspective on how the wind was for that year and where my sailing is now relative to the past.
My session total went up 11 days to 56 total days. Interestingly, once again I sailed the coast almost as much as local lakes. Only a third of my sessions were in strong planing wind. I traveled to Hatteras with the family this year. No wavesailing. No Gorge. I participated in two fun races for the first time, in Dallas, and got my tail kicked pretty bad both times. I found out even nice race gear will not help me plane as early as normal sized humans can on freeride gear. I may participate in fun races again because I feel it is good for the sport and to support the continuation of future events.
I added the backwind jibe, but the vulcan still eludes me. I am going to crack the vulcan in 2017. There, I said it.
I am most disappointed that I again failed to get my kids on the water more. I did invite them, but tennis and other interests won. They really aren't kids anymore.
Peace to all. I am very concerned about the 2016 US election results and what it will mean to our country and the planet. I hope that my fears will not be realized, and that people will step up and do the right thing for everyone, not just themselves. One can only hope. I wish all a healthy and happy 2017.
