After work session....after driving for 4.5 hours! I made it with plenty of daylight to spare. I saw 20 mph on the iW sensor when driving over the JFK, but I when arrived Randy told me the clouds prevented the wind from really turning on today. Undeterred, I rigged up the 6.3m2 Freek. I accidentally placed my mast base a few cm back, and decided to leave it there to see if it would help me plane a little earlier. It ended up making a huge difference. I am super pleased with this and my new footstrap placement. I am surprised how such subtle tuning changes can be so impactful. These are things I knew about, but I never would have tried until I heard it from Phil at the clinic. Ahhh, my 6.3m2 Freek and I are in such a love hate relationship right now. I love how light and tight it is in maneuvers. It looks great on land and the water, but the low-end is just not great. I am going to compare it to my S1 on land tomorrow, but I think it is too high aspect and the sail area below the boom too small to be my biggest sail. I may have to repair my shredded S1. Right now, it sits too close in performance to the 5.9m2 Freek for me. I wish the weekday winds were going to stay for the weekend, but I am happy to get a good session in this evening.
