Another great day! A very good crowd with parking at a premium (a bit crowded at the gybe buoy too). I am glad I got there when I did. I forgot to put it my last windlog, but I finally planed out of a few backwind gybes yesterday. They were not clean like Remko's, as my fin would skid out and then catch back during the carve. The key is coming in as fanging as you can. Also true for any planing gybe exit, I guess. I like it when it is gusting right at the beach so you can do it in front of the sailors who are resting in the shallow water. Well, today I was doing that for a duck gybe and when I ducked the sail and grabbed the other side, it was pointing at a funny angle. I kept carving to let it catch up. I still had a lot of speed, so I just thought why not sail/body 360 it? I didn't make it the first time, but when I tried again, viola! - a completed donkey gybe. A similar thing happened when I first tried the backwind gybe. I made it on the second attempt (without much thought). After, I could not make it happen again, despite many tries. Too much purposeful thinking? Oh well, I did eventually get more backwind gybes, so hopefully the donkeys will come back too.
