It's the end of an era. The end of the epic mid October 2018 10 days straight wind/wave extravaganza (I didn't even log my plain surf sessions on here), and also the end of my 2012 5.2 Worldsails Surge. My workhorse, my wave muse, my freestyle stalwart, my canal crawler, who also put up with me duct taping on a number and sailing Nationals, leaving her rigged in Cole Park overnight. We had no business slaloming on wave gear, but we got third place together. We've had our share of adventures. I guess my faithful companion got rode hard and put away wet one too many times. Down in the shorebreak after a gentle missed inside tack, just waiting for the remains of a set to wash over, the second biggest panel blew out. I never felt it happen and was dumbfounded when lofting it to waterstart and seeing a large split. I kept the nose pointed offshore and got up anyway, willing for power through just one more shorebreak. I rode out to a solid set and banked a downhill jibe on the biggest and best wave that did my old sail proud. We took one more long ride down the line, and I brought her home for the last time. Goodbye, old buddy. You will have an afterlife in my custom shower curtain.
